As Fall begins, we’re looking forward to cooler days, pumpkin-spiced treats, and a harvest of bridge events here at Unit 498.

Join our festive Unit Game on October 12 at the Villa.  We’ll serve lunch at 11:30 and the Game starts at 12:15.  Please note our new, ACBL-mandated Student entry fee of $10.  Please register in advance at https://unit498.com/events since space is limited.  You do not need a partner to sign up.

Win Gold at the Local Club

The Fall ACBL Instant Matchpoint Game (IMG) is back on October 30, Wednesday afternoon at 12:30, hosted by director Jennifer Kuhn.  This exciting special event for registered face-to-face clubs offers loads of benefits for participants. One gold masterpoint® is up for grabs when you finish at the top of a section (both directions).  As a bonus, you can see your score immediately after each deal in a pre-printed Fall IMG traveler.

The Fall IMG features pre-printed written analyses of all 36 deals for participants. Don’t miss the in-depth coverage from this report, giving you an expert’s view on the game.

Along with the pre-printed analyses for all 36 deals, participants will receive full hand records.

Unit 498 Games

Many thanks to Kai Eckert for putting on another vibrant Unit game on September 7.  E/W ruled the day in the Open section, with the top five spots overall going to Carl Ebeling and Bob Gleason, Lucy Ballard and Kathryn Barnard, Arline and Jim Van Ness, Gloria Halliday and Aster Wu, and Jeanne Urich and Roger Dewes.  Raad Bunni and Yakov Feldman led the N/S field.  

In the 499er section, the top three finishers were Debra Martinez and Gail Cameron, Marie Pattie and Molly Roff, and Janice Carter and Rita Armstrong.

Congrats to Fred Chasalow and Janice O’Brien for finishing as the top N/S pair overall and to Janice Nakao and Lisa Gooze for being the highest scoring Unit 498 pair in E/W in our September online Mentor/Mentee game.  We have one more game for the year on October 24 with the online format.  We’re looking forward to bringing back in-person Mentor/Mentee games in 2025 and hope you’ll consider participating again or joining anew.

Kudos to Carol Lashman for organizing a successful, two session Non-Life Master Sectional at the Villa on Saturday, September 28.  Six tables played in the 199er morning session.  The 749er stratification had 6.5 tables in the both the morning and afternoon sessions.

The Longest Day

Our Longest Day fundraising was a great success this year.  Thanks to your generous contributions, we surpassed our goal of $35,000 and raised $39,809! 

Your individual contributions, participation in our raffles, as well as our fun bridge events, and reaching out to friends and family helped raise these funds for our worthwhile cause.  Your support means more than words can convey:  your contribution directly impacts the ability to support Alzheimer's Disease research; provides care and resources to victims of the disease and their families; and raises continued awareness. With your help, we are one step closer to finding a cure and improving the lives of those affected by this all-too-common condition.
