November Unitizer

San Mateo Unit 498               November  2024

The Unitizer

In this season of giving thanks, we feel so lucky to have settled in to our beautiful new home at the Villa.  It has been such a wonderful space to play and join our bridge friends for friendly Club, Unit, and Sectional games.  May we continue to enjoy many happy, warm bridge memories there to close out the year.

Please join us at our remaining 2024 Unit Games— Saturdays November 9th and December 14th at the Villa.  We’ll serve lunch at 11:30 and the Games start at 12:15. You can sign up at our website, https://unit498.com/events, or by responding to the email reminders.  If you do need help finding a partner, contact CarlEbeling498@gmail.com.

Instant Matchpoint Game

Debra, Carl, our “Deer” Jenny, Eileen and Leslie
after a successful IMG game

Some found Gold and Red points at the October 30th ACBL-Wide Instant Matchpoint game. We had some fun costumes, lots of candy, and some interesting bridge, which was scored against all other pairs playing the identical hands throughout the ACBL that afternoon.

Paula and Jeanne showing their Halloween spirit

Mary Bates and Sandra Tilch earned 1 Gold Point (along with 1.41 Red and .40 Black points) by placing first overall and first E/W. Pete Goldsmith and Janice O’Brien were first N/S, earning the same points.  Other N/S pairs scoring black and red points were Susan Barkley and Vivien Moyer, Debra Martinez and Carl Ebeling, Sue Papilion and Janelle Van Rensselaer, and Jeanne Urich and Paula Linden.  Pairs earning points E/W were Louise Frye and Gloria Darke, Genie and Jeff Reynolds, Leslie Braker and Eileen Digiorgio, and Molly Roff and Antonia Li.

Unit 498 Game

Fun was had by all at our October Unit game, with nine total tables.  Kristine and Thomas Birge finished in front of the field in the 499er game, followed by Molly Roff and Jana Torchia, Maureen Olson and Carmen Keenan, and Rita Armstrong and Janice Carter.  In the Open section, Prudence Saunders and Kimberly Fanady finished first overall and E/W, with Kathryn Barnard and Lucy Ballard finishing first in N/S.  Thanks again to Kai Eckert and his “team” for making these games something to look forward to each month.

Mentor/Mentee Games

We hosted our last online Mentor/Mentee game of the year on October 24th.  Congratulations to Marcus Ballinger and Mary Smith for finishing first with a 75% game — well done!
