February 14 Unit Game
What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than play in our unit game! We had a very nice turnout with 14 tables, 8 in the 499er game and 6 in the open game. A fabulous directing job by
Jenny, as usual, and expertly organized by Leslie Braker including a wonderful lunch with help from many of our unit members. Thank you for making this such a successful day!
Congratulations to our first place winners in the open game: Bob Gleason-Gail Cameron N/S and Janice O’Brien-Fred Chasalow E/W. Coming in second: Art Quey-Kai Eckert N/S and Arline
Van Ness-Jim Van Ness E/W. In the 499er game, first went to Barbara Lewis-Lauren Rosen N/S and Lennie Gotcher-Libby O’Leary E/W. Second place finishers were Elena Powers-Janice Carter N/S
and Michael Lieberman-Helen Kishi E/W. Congratulations!
Our next Unit Game is on March 14.

Swiss Teams and Awards Recognition
We had another fun evening of Swiss teams play in February with Jenny directing. Congratulations to the first-place team of Angela Young, Bruce Deberry, Sue Papilion and Vince Tornabene
followed by the second-place team of Doug Seifert, Chuck Simmons, Emily Francis and Henry Zhang.
Our next Swiss teams game is Wednesday, March 18. In addition to our Swiss game we will recognize our 2025 Mini McKenney and Helen Shanbrom Ace of Clubs unit winners. There will be cake
and a (non-alcoholic) toast for everyone! Please come early with your partner to allow time to set up teams so we can start our game at 6:30. Teams and matchups will be decided that night
- No pre-registration required. Please join us on the 18th!
Mentor-Mentee Games
Our second mentor/mentee game of the year was played online on BBO. Thank you, Eileen DiGiorgio, for all the work to organize the game and to Art for directing. Congratulations to Ken
Hoeck-Jim Van Ness N/S and Birgit Shay-Mark Sorenson E/W for their first-place finish and Victoria Knaack-Carrie Snyder N/S and Vince Tornabene-Kit Morse E/W for finishing in second
place.
Our next mentor/mentee game will be online on March 26 at 6:30 on BBO. Please email Eileen DiGiorgio at Eileenunit498@gmail.com if you are interested in
playing. This game is a great way for our newer players to meet and play with a more experienced player. All newer players are encouraged to play!
More information about our Mentor/Mentee Program can be found on our
Unit 498 Website.
