January 24 Unit Game
We had our January Unit Game on Saturday the 24th. Thank you to Jenny for directing a fabulous game! And thank you to Leslie Braker and team for organizing a delicious lunch featuring
sandwiches from the Sour Dough Sandwich Co.

Congratulations to our winners from the game! In the open game, first place went to Ken Hui-Ed Lee N/S, and Cliff Chernick-Kit Morse E/W, second place Roger Dewes-Raad Bunni N/S, and Phil Kuhn-Dan
Raider E/W.
In the 499er game, first place went to Sue Galletta-Carol Lashman N/S, and Paul Koontz-Gaurang Desai E/W, second place Sylvia Warnes-Anna Brown N/S, and Pamela Resser-Ron Morris E/W.
Swiss Teams
Our first Swiss team game of the year was played on Wednesday January 21st. Congratulations to Eileen DiGiorgio, Leslie Braker, Lina Reznik and Art Quey for a first place finish, and Rita
Armstrong, Janice Carter, Angela Young, Bruce Deberry for coming in second. And thanks to Jenny for directing another fun Swiss game!
Our next Swiss teams game is Wednesday, February 18th. Please come early with your partner to allow time to set up teams so we can get our game started at 6:30. Teams and matchups will be
decided that night - No pre-registration required. These games are great fun for everyone, whether you are an experienced Swiss teams player or have never played teams before. Please
join us on the 18th!
Mentor-Mentee Games
We had our first mentor/mentee game of the year on January 28th. We had a great in-person game at The Villa with 9 tables. Congratulations to Vince Tornabene - Cliff Chernick N/S and
Barbara Luttrell - Daniel Xu E/W for their first place finish and Bill Chow - Chuck Riffle N/S and Fred Chasalow - Janice O'Brien E/W for their second place finish!
Thank you to Eileen DiGiorgio for matching up mentees with mentors, Kathryn Barnard for a delicious light dinner and Jenny for directing the game.

Monterey Regional

Winter Sectional
We are looking forward to our Winter Sectional at the Palo Alto Bridge Center on February 21st and 22nd. On Saturday the 21st, we’ll host games for all levels of players
with morning (10:00 A.M.) and afternoon (2:30 P.M.) sessions, including a special 99er session on Saturday morning, where the winners will become the next pair to have their names permanently
engraved on the Art Weinstein Memorial Trophy. Sunday's games will be two-session team matches, no pre-registration required. See all the details in the flyer at our website: Unit498

Lesson and Bridge Game with Phil Abrahamson
On Saturday March 7 we have an exciting event planned for our newcomer and intermediate players with fewer than 199 master points. Teacher of the Year and Planet Bridge Coach, Phil Abrahamson, will
be giving a 30-minute lesson followed by an 18-board game with a post-game hand review. All this starts at 9:30 aiming to be finished around 12:30 for an entry fee of $15. No partner needed! Snacks

Spring Non-Life Master Sectional
On Saturday April 18 at The Villa, we will host a sectional for those with 750 or fewer master points and and who are not yet life-masters. This is a great way to play competitive bridge with players
at your level and earn Silver masterpoints. At 10am, two sections are offered: 0-200 or 0-750 master points. At the 2:30pm session, all players with 0-750 master points will compete. You can play

Bi-Weekly Supervised Play with Mary Bates
Unit 498 will host Supervised Play with Mary Bates at the Villa on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of most months from 1:30 to 3:30. Upcoming February dates are the 11th and 25th.
Come and practice your bridge playing in a relaxed, social setting. Certified instructor Mary Bates and other experienced players will be on hand to answer any questions that may arise during the
bidding and play of the hand.
All levels are welcome, but this program is especially geared towards newer players and partnerships who want to practice, as well as those who do not yet feel ready for a duplicate game.
No partner required!
