Come for camaraderie and hors d’oeuvres at 5:15, a tasty dinner at 5:30 and Swiss pairs at 6 PM. Save Saturday and Sunday, March 9th and 10th for the San Mateo Winter Sectional Bridge Tournament at the San Mateo Fair Grounds Expo Center. Under Fran Ball’s fine hand, there are stratified pairs at 1 and 7 PM Saturday; and at 11 AM and 5 PM Sunday. Featured is the Saturday 1 PM one session Art Weinstein Memorial 99'er stratified Championship. Sunday’s 4 match Strati-Flighted Swiss team events start at 11 AM. Added to our games—After 16 years at Woodlake, Margaret Hale has moved her game to our Bayshore Bridge Club. Starting time remains at noon on Wednesday, a half hour before Steve Kanzee’s game. Now there are eight afternoon games: Wed. at noon, Mon. thru Sat at 12:30 and Sun at 1 PM. Evening games are at 7:15 PM Thu. and at 7 PM Mon., Fri. and Sat.
Holiday Unit game—Some were calling it the Chanumas game. Others tagged it Christmas with a dreidel. Still others worked in Kwanza and Ramadan. Whatever. The players had a ball at a posh Swiss pairs event at the Millbrea Clarion Hotel. Flight A 1st place went to the team of Daisy Straus, Gigi Marki, D. Lionel O’Young and Cheryl Haines. Dana Scadden, Thomas Scadden, Joan Bodenlos and Vera Pitts took 1st place in Flights B and C.
New Year Bridge Party—Music and dancing, an Elvis impersonator, elegant dining, bridge— Ellie Stauffer, Takemi Totes and Patty Frederick earned kudos for providing the decorations and international foods and planning such a marvelous gala evening. Where else can you find such a great New Year’s celebration and for only $12.00 per head. N/S Flight A winners were Cheryl Haines and D. Lionel O’Young. B & C winners were Lawrence Calof and Paul Khanna. E/W Flight A winners were Robert Rose and Robert Ng. B & C winners were Kayoko Miki and Miwako Litwin.

Welcome to new unit members—Keiko Enomoto, Lizah and Steven McLaughlin and Nancy Pringle Not a member yet but— For over a month, we’ve enjoyed many visits from Sakir Sarimsakci, of Istanbul, Turkey. Sakir, a member of the National Senior Turkish team, is here to visit his two sons and one grandson who live in Burlingame.
Oops—In reporting Las Vegas results last month, we overlooked Lenore Karp’s major victory. She and Gene Simpson finished first overall in the Stratified Senior pairs.
